Cade got glasses!

He is just a little near-sighted right now, but I think he inherited my eyesight. He can still go without them most of the time, but will use them at school and such.

Scooting Around

It's been so rainy and a little chilly here! However, I have still gotten the kids out a little bit...just bundled them up a little more. Today wasn't so bad and we enjoyed playing at the basketball courts with scooters, push toys, and roller skates/blades.

Hutt loving his new scooter he bought with Christmas money.

Toben letting Callaway put her skates in the dump truck he was pushing.

Toben, a few seconds later, upset that Callaway's skates are in there.

Callaway practicing with her skates. So pretty!

These two blondes play so well together! All Hutton said to Toben was, "Hey, Toben" and then Toben comes and does this...exactly what Hutt wanted. Their minds think alike.

Cade skating around with his roller blades.

Just a cute shot of Toben. He's carrying Callaway's skates on the way back. :)

Cardboard Feet

I read a blog that has some fun crafts/ideas to do with your kids. This was one of them. Hutton and Callaway had a fun time making these cardboard feet. We grabbed some cardboard from our recycle bin and used some old spray paint and craft paint. Hutton made monster feet. Callaway called hers 'princess' feet, and I made some duck feet for Toben (since we were outside, he was a little distracted with all the other toys and balls to play with, so he didn't participate much...therefore he isn't in any of the pictures, he's off playing:) ). I let Hutton try using the spray paint some and he did a great job! We started before lunch and then ate lunch while letting them dry then put the straps on and tried them out.

I love...

THIS!:

I think it's just the perfect swirl. I call it my cinnamon-roll button. I kiss it, I zerbert it, I nibble it, I poke it, I 'beep' it, I tickle it. It's just so cute! I love it! It belongs to this little guy whom I love even more:

Wednesday Words

Hutton:
We were at a conference a few nights ago singing songs of praise and worship. The worship leader was singing David Crowder's song "How He loves us", which I really like. Hutton was getting a little antsy and I told him to wait until after this song and then we will sneak out the back, but that I really liked this song and wanted to sing it. He sat quietly and towards the middle of the song leaned over and whispered, "Mom, I like this song." Then waiting a few seconds and said, "Mom, I like this song a lot."
To listen and watch video of "How He love us" : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TJyW55AXJAk

Callaway:
When we were driving in town a few days ago, we saw a stretch limousine. When Callaway saw it, her eyes lit up and she said, "Mom, that is my favorite car! I want one of those when I get bigger!" haha

No, David, No...the Edney Version

My kids LOVE the book No, David! by David Shannon. He is a great artist! The story is about a mom telling his boy, David, "no" in several circumstances...but it ends with a sweet hug and an "I love you". One reason my kids love it so much is that I replace David's name with one of their's. I switch the names up as I reread it to them also , so they never know who is going to be doing what (I say a name everytime even though the book doesn't). They love it! It's also a good reminder to me of how sometimes children hear 'no' so many times throughout the day and by rewording a phrase or by telling what they CAN do, it makes a big difference. So, with it being cold outside and being stuck inside for a while, I thought it would be a great book to act out. Here is the Edney version of No, David! or rather...

*NOTE: no feelings were hurt during the making of this book

No, Cade, Hutton, Callaway and Toben!

Cade, Hutton, Callaway, and Toben's mom always said, "No, Cade, Hutton, Callaway and Toben!"

No, Callaway!

No, Cade, No!

No!No!No! Callaway, Hutton, Toben, and Cade!

Come back here, Toben!

Hutton, be quiet!

Don't play with your food, Cade!

That's enough, Callaway!

Callaway, go to your room!

Cade, settle down.

Stop that this instant, Toben.

Put your toys away, Hutton, Callaway, Toben, and Cade.

Not in the house, Hutton!

I said no, Hutton!

Hutton, Cade, Toben, and Callaway...come here!

Yes, Toben, Cade, Hutton, and Callaway...I love you!

Cade and the Spelling Bee

Cade did so great on the spelling bee. He worked so hard and we are so proud. He finished in the top 6, making it to round 5 and then missed the word adament, spelling it with an 'e' in the middle. He wasn't disappointed after he had to sit down, which I am thankful for. During another round, when another contestant was asked to spell the word "errand", Cade rolled his eyes. Since we live out in the county, we quite often combine trips into town and run errands after we pick him up from school. He doesn't always like it. It was funny to see. I've been trying to upload some clips all day, but I think the weather is throwing the internet in and out. Maybe soon. :) Stay warm!

Cade's PJ Day at School

The last day of school before the break, Cade had a PJ day (very specific rules applied). I went and got him some special Pajama bottoms from Old Navy...ones with game controllers all over it. He loves video games very much, but as much as he loves that, he loves reading and art just as much. We go to the library every thursday and everyone checks out books. He always checks out a few chapter books and usually has one read by bedtime that night. He likes to check out the Ed Emberley drawing books also, which, from there, both he and Hutton spend the next week drawing the pictures. He is on the Harry Potter book 2 and is on CD 9 of the Chronicles of Narnia series. I love how he values literature and art and... ok...maybe Kevin and I get in on the gaming with him too sometimes (take note I am the farthest in the new Super Marios Bros.). He just loves to learn. He came home in October with a list of about 280 spelling words that were part of the first round on the spelling bee at his school. He was very excited about it and asked several times about it in the next two days. So I told him if he wanted to compete in it, then we would practice some every night and look up what the words meant and how to say them (some of these words I have never even heard of). We did all that for the next three weeks until the 1st round. All the students in grades 1-4 participated in the first round. It was a written exam and the top 10% moved onto the next round. With how much he studied and how well he knew the words, I had no doubt he would make it to round 2. And he did. So in mid-November he received the next set of words in the official Spell It! booklet...which was 1100! Luckily the first 280 were included in that. They divided up the words by origin this time, which helped. In mid-December he took another written exam and the top 20 moved on. I wasn't quite sure if he would make it this time because there were some words we didn't even get to go over. But, he made it again! The only 2nd grader! So, now, on Friday is an oral spelling bee. We are so proud of his hard work and determination. He has been so motivated. We will let you know how he does.

Winterfest at the Square

There was a kids' winterfest in the town square before Christmas. There were a few things about it that could have run a little bit more organized but the kids didn't know that difference and had a fun time. The big thing they had was real snow...well, real artificial snow. They brought in a snow machine and allocated an area for it. The had a kid-sized trained...(when you see the pics, remember that this is small town east texas.) :) They played The Polar Express in the old one-room theater which was fun to watch. And they had several booths for crafts. One was for letter writing to Santa. Hutton and Callaway both wrote a letter, with Hutton's first line to Santa being "You are the coolest". Cade opted out of the Santa thing, and Toben did not want anything to do with Santa. Hutton and Callaway both delivered their letter to Santa and had the biggest smiles on their faces as Santa read the letter (my flash wasn't working at the time).

Remembering Noah

This past December 17th marked 7 years ago that our 2nd son, Noah, was born and died. As always, we let balloons go in memory of him. Out of the 6 balloons we let go, 4 released straight into the sky, one got stuck in a tree, and one was held on to by a little boy who gave us the funniest look as we let ours go...there was no way he was going to let go of his balloon. :)
